You are overlooking the fact that a company's success means so much more than sheer number of sales. Microsoft and Sony are sellling more consoles than Nintendo, yet Nintendo's profits are far far ahead of the other two. Why? Development costs. Nintendo gains about 50$ per gamecube sold, while Sony and Microsoft respectively lose 100-180$ per console. I don't know about Nintendo's business model this time, but I believe as long as they have a decent number of loyal fans, they'll be making consoles for a long time to come.

Happy now?
Then they better include that peripheral in the box with the system, but knowing my nintendo, you will need to buy is seperate and since anyone who buys the system will use only that awkward thing will want the addon for the controller it will be in short supply. Sadly I will not be getting this nintendo, I just see them tanking. XBox 360 for me, I would have gone PS3 for GTA but shoot, they release for both XB and PS now.

PC>Nintendo, Playstation, XBox

Right now PC has the best experience of games graphics, controls i love keyboard and mouse for shooters no way a control could compare to that, Consoles are just second hand gaming(Cheaper than a uber leet comp with the best specs)

Maybe nintendo will die in america but not on Japan LoL

Excactly! pc is so much better than everything else... i mean, whenever i play a console at one of my friends house, I am always so amazed that people can have fun with these things, like shoot-em-games... to me they are sooo retarted... but w/e. Also, I think that pc gives people more input into the came, it is also more customizable....

And i <3 having iTunes going while i play guildwars... so my elementalist is blowing things up to Shakira or somthing

Ah, so now you base your decision to not buy a Revolution on your haphazard assumption that one peripheral will not come with it. Now that's a definitive argument.

Well anyone who starts a post with "Nintendo will tank" and "Check the gay controller" can't be expected to give some decent arguments ;p

As for Nintendo "tanking", shino sotto makes a fine recap there over what I and others have already said. Nintendo is currently one of the more profitable businesses in the game industry. That says enough about the Big N disappearing in short term or not I think

The marriage transforms the pointer into a virtual wand of sorts, enabling users to move objects and characters in games simply by moving the peripheral. The sensors read the pointer's every move in real-time space. They can detect up, down, left and right motion, and also translate forward and backward depth. The controller's sensors also recognize twisting, rotating and tilting movements. In short, any motion made by arms and wrists can be translated to Revolution games.

Back to the revolution, Im still intrested to see exactly how this controler will work with every game, im guessing it will be able to turn sideways and used as a normal controler, but im still a little worried about how its going to work...

Xbox had Jade empire, Fable, KoTOR, and many more to its name.

judging from some of the rash statements by some naysayers..
most of u still haven't seen the whole picture yet
the new Rev controller is NOT just a remote
it's going to come standard with a attachment

sorta like a nunchuck
and if tats set up doesn't suit u, the shell attachment will turn it into a regular controller while retaining the effect from the "remote"
you can alwats plug in the old GC controller too

I keep failing to see why a drop in profit now for a product released in 2001 (?) is a failure, while compared to other companies Nintendo makes a lot of profit. You can't say from neither Sony or Microsoft they've made profit on their hardware, and because of lower development costs for gamecube compared to the other consoles you can afford to sell less and earn anyway.

From the perspective of a developer:

I'm absolutely thrilled about the new controller. Sure, my first reaction was: "Hey, Nintendo are out of their f***ing minds!", but the more details I read about it, the more I love this thing.

1) It will be easier for indie developers (-> anybody not owned by Sony, M$ or EA) to develop console titles, since you can concentrate on having fun and innovative gameplay and don't have to spend a gazillion dollars on art assets to hide the fact that your new game is just another shooter.

2) The new look and more intuitve control scheme of the Revolution controller will make it easier to cater to new target audiences who migh not get into gaming otherwise. Another big asset for indie developers.

From a gamer's perspective: I allways loathed the PS and PS2 controllers. I have big hands and holding those flimsy things in my hands just hurts after long periods of gaming. The XBox and Gamecube controllers were a lot better, they are much more ergonomic.

The Revolution controller opens up entirely new possibilities for me. It could well be THE gaming peripheral for FPS on consoles (move and strafe with the analogue stick in one hand and use the motion sensor thingy to aim and move the camera) and I can't wait to try it out on one of those games. It could make maneuvring through menus and the like a lot easier (just point and click) and could lead to whole new gameplay experiences.

I've been gaming for the last 20 years and I'm pretty much fed up with the whole business. I can't look at Killzone 2 or any of the other NextGen shooters without dfeeling sick. That's it? That's the future of gaming? Big hulking space marines shooting monsters or other space marines? Have been doing this since Doom, and don't you know, even Doom 2 sucked because there was hardly anything new in it.. And there hasn't changed that much since then..

New car racers with even more reflective surfaces and babes with bigger breasts in my fighting games? And I'm to control everything with a periphery that hasn't really changed during the last twenty years? Apart from adding another gazillion buttons to the controller of course, thus making games even less intuitive to controll..

Wanna bet, that the PS4 controller will have motion sensors in it?

The profits been cut in half this last quarter, and Im kicking myself for not remebering where I read this.

Manderlock I remember reading that too (gamespot article link on second page of this thread?) but the fact that Nintendo makes profit compared to the other companies who didn't counts too:
Quote:
It also can't be understated that Nintendo saw a profit in its last quarter. By comparison, Sony Computer Entertainment today reported a quarterly loss of 5.9 billion yen ($52.6 million). Last week, Microsoft's Home and Entertainment division, which makes the Xbox, said it lost $179 million during its last quarter.
Dreamcrafter: I'm happy to hear so many positive comments from the indie developer scene (yes I read some of their forums). I really hope that the relatively low development costs and the new options for being innovative will give the industry a boost, and perhaps create some new genres

Believe it or not it I think it sounds like a good idea, it's just a tad bit too much of a revolution. I mean the controller can practically be used for everything. It can be a guncon, sword, you name it. However, it's probably going to be really weird controlling a character by waving around a dvd remote rather than b ya simple joy pad. Moreso, you'll probably look a tad bit retard if you're sitting there shooting guys on a screen with a remote rather than a guncon....ok...so maybe it isn't such a great idea. Gamespot, however, said it works pretty well...so I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.
